MSHP investigates two fatal weekend accidents

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating two fatal accidents from over the weekend. The first incident happened on Route 136, three miles east of Stanberry, before 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The Patrol says 61-year-old Jay McGlothlin, of Stanberry, was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2003 Harley Davidson slammed into a semi that was turning onto Route F.

The second incident happened in Mercer Homecoming Park, after 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Authorities say 64-year-old Billy Nichols, of DeKalb, crashed during an ATV drag race.

The Patrol says the ATV that Nichols was on was unable to stop at the end of the race, and struck a utility pole.
